Had a wonderful dinner at the restaurant. The staff is attentive. Food is excellent with local meat/game selections. Recommend if traveling to Colorado Springs to eat at this restaurant .

Great happy hour prices! Artichoke dip was delicious and the service was wonderful. House wine was good but the Mackenzie Ale wasn't the greatest beer in the world.

My wife and I have been to MacKenzie's Steakhouse about three or four times now on special occasions and nights that we really just want to go out on a nice date. We both have absolutely fallen in love with this place!! The setting is calm, clean, and classy. It's a great place for a romantic evening, a high-profile business meeting, or a special evening. A brief list of dishes that you must eat here: Seared Ahi Tuna: Amazing appetizer, seasoned beautifully and plated over a scrumptious mix of rice noodles and a cucumber salad. French Onion Soup: Look, I used to eat french onion soup everywhere... MacKenzie's ruined the dish for me because it is so incredible. When I first got it there, I put my face over it for about two minutes just smelling all the distinct and amazing smells. Then when I ate it I could not stop. By far the best I have ever had, and it has been consistent every time I have gone. Bison Fillet: They won't cook it past medium well (in order to keep the flavor and texture desirable). Served with a garlic mash and baby carrots with a red wine reduction. Kobi Fillet w/ black truffles: and beautifully seasoned sweet potato fries. I get pretty upset at messing up yam fries at all and they put a smile on my face. :) (a seafood pasta dish that the name escapes me right now): YUM!! It IS a bit pricey, but it is soooo worth it. If you can afford it or can save up for a special occasion... go here. I promise you will make your mouth happy and leave full and satisfied.

While we went there during prom night so they were very busy, we had an amazing server. The server went out of her way to make sure I had an amazing birthday experience.

We just enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving meal at MacKenzie's. Service was excellent and the food tasted wonderful! Bonus: Parking meters are free on holidays.

For the price of the food it's pretty average. They do some sort of tag-team, buddy system wait staff. I am generally annoyed by one waiter trying to hard for a tip but two of them is more than I can take. For an upscale place they don't have coat check. Hello, this is Colorado and it is cold sometimes. They do have tacky coat racks. Additionally, they do not have valet. I don't know what the deal is with Colorado Springs, but they need to have valet at places. I don't feel like walking 7 blocks in heels and a jacket to go to an upscale place that doesn't have coat check or valet with extremely average food. SKIP THIS PLACE

My wife an I dined here for our 1 year wedding anniversary last night. The restaurant came highly recommended to us from several sources. After our experience there my wife and I are both shaking our heads in utter disbelief and confusion. The service was subpar overall and the food was quite honestly, well, disgusting; neither of us finished our main entree. There were so many flies buzzing about that I was actually able to swat one out of midair and it landed dead on our table. Gross I know but it actually happened. The bathrooms were a mess as well kind of par for the course if you will. With so much competition out there these days we simply don't have the patience for poor service, or cold, inadequately prepared food. Skip it.

I have been here a couple of times - great feel (sophisticated and classy) and also a nice location. The martinis are good (& strong) and they have a happy hour. I took my girlfriend here on New Years eve and we were seated in the lower dining area. It was really nice and felt romantic. She had the seafood chiopino and I had a steak. They were both very good, though not one of the best I have ever had. We really enjoyed ourselves and thought it was a great place to have a date. If you live in the Springs, I would definitely check it out!

This is the steakhouse of all steakhouses. My wife and I come here for special occasions but due to the price and difficult parking we are drawn away at times. But I am absolutely a fan of this restaurant. It has such an old town feel with an incredible sense of class. The past few times we have been my wife always orders the 12oz fillet wrapped in bacon and I get the bone in Ribeye witch looks similar to a tennis racket. The last time I went I ordered the oysters as an appetizer and was pleasantly surprised. Although they seemed small to me they were delicious. Another plus to the restaurant is the awesome french onion soup which is just as salty and cheesy as any should be. If you are looking for some mild saving I recommend going onto their website and print off a free appetizer certificate. I don't have a printer as of now so I took a picture of my computer screen and showed it to the waitress and she told me it wasn't uncommon so I didn't feel like a cheap skate. Never have I had a bad experience here and I thoroughly enjoy their complete menu. Always will we return if we have the money and feel like putting on some decent clothes.

I went here to eat lunch with my co-workers. It is located in downtown Colorado Springs, I love the ambiance. This place is what we recommend to our guests in the hotel that I am working for, whenever they ask for a local restaurant. Their steaks are amazing! Perfect for a date!

This place has amazing happy-hour specials! I went there with a friend for an early-evening hangout in the middle of the week; 1/2 off martinis and 1/2 off appetizers from 4pm - 7pm! The cocktails were great and the fried calamari with dipping sauce was amazing! I will definitely be visiting this Restaurant again!

Now I know where to go for a decent steak in COS. After trying several other "recommended" places -- this is the spot! Nice decor, but not stuffy. Great staff: they know their menu, but they are not intrusive. Dishes were promptly removed, water glasses were never empty. The acoustics were decent. I had shrimp cocktail for a starter. These were HUGE. Really nice. One of the best I've had in a while. Partner had salad of gorgonzola and tomato. He cleaned his plate. Entrees: I had prime rib, hubby had filet with au poivre sauce. Both were perfectly cooked. Everything came out hot and as ordered. This is not Ruth's Chris or Morton's, but very good. The waiter recommended a wine to go with the meal - it was an excellent choice. For me, many restaurants fall down on desserts. Even here, MacKenzie's held up. We shared a sticky toffee pudding. It was very good. I didn't care for the cinnamon ice cream (it seemed a bit overpowering); otherwise it was delish. I give MacKenzie's a 4/5 only because of the multiple servers we dealt with (having to repeat order information more than once and one server that seemed a bit ditzy).

Loved this place. Got lucky and visited on half price Red blend night. Our server recommended a great wine to go with our steaks. If I ever make it back to CS I would eat there again.

Good Food - HIGH priced - ok service. The downtown "Nice Steakhouse" atmosphere is what you pay for. 2 of us for $50 no drinks.....Texas Road House for half but lots more noise. Asked for Med Well and Ribeye came out pretty pink so sent back and still undercooked.

This is my third time eating at Mackenzie's. The first two times were not very good, but there are some things about this restaurant that made me want to keep giving it another chance. The third time, last night, just sealed the deal for me. Let me say the atmosphere, the outdoor patio, and the staff are all absolutely first rate - that part deserves six stars if there were that many. The anchovies on the Caesar salad were excellent, and the side dishes were fine. My biggest problem is what should be their forte - the steaks. My fillet mignon was stringy and tough. I tried to stick with it , but just couldn't stomach more than about three bites. A fillet should almost by definition be flawless, but this was close to inedible. The waitress and manager were extremely apologetic and offered another steak, and I had the New York strip. The texture was fine but didn't have a whole lot of flavor, and by this time, I really just wanted to leave. Although the other two in our party didn't send their steaks back, they both commented that theirs were similar to mine. One other thing: The drinks were weak and just didn't taste that good. I can't remember the last time I nursed one drink for an hour and a half, but this drink just didn't taste good enough to "get it down".

I had the artichoke dip with veggies, served in a warm bread bowl. It was fab. The strip steak was cooked to perfection and was one of the best I have had. Other then the price, everything else was outstanding. Will return for a special event.

MacKenzie's is a great place for dinner. Excellent ambiance; dark wood, cozy booths, but not so dark you can't see who your are eating with. The service was excellent. The food was outstanding: Appetizer of oysters, a sublime lettuce wedge (with ranch by request rather than bleu cheese), and a rack of lamb entree (to die for). Excellent wine selection, although I would caution that there is very little that is affordable. I don't know if they have a corkage fee for BYO, but you might want to ask before coming here if you want wince with your meal. I ordered a bottle of Cabernet (Liberty School from Paso Robles) and it was $38. A good wine, but that prices are steep here. Desert was excellent as well. This is a great place for dinner. Except for the wine prices, it was well worth the money.

Ambiance: Hands down the best atmosphere of any steak house in Colorado Springs! Subterranean dining room, with several eating alcoves. Dark wood and muted-color interiors, reflect a throwback to the 1930s. Intimate for a date, but also welcoming for a business meal. Great old-school bar and a wonderful outdoor terrace, that is great for summer dining. This is the kind of place where the atmosphere definitely lends itself to the overall enjoyment of the meal. Service: Top notch. Wait staff is very much educated about the selections on their menus, and give great suggestions. Good knowledge of their extensive wine list as well. Extremely professional, yet also completely personable and charming. Food: First off, wonderful Martini selection (each arrives in it's own mini cocktail shaker, which is enough for two drinks). Top shelf vodka is common, but I must say they are a little on the weak side, though very tasty. Nice selection of appetizers. On my last visit, our group ordered oysters on the shell that were as good and as fresh as oysters can be in Colorado. I have absolutely fallen in love with their French Onion Soup (easily the best French Onion in Colorado Springs), which is served in a mini cast-iron skillet, and covered with a high quality and generous portion of Gruyere cheese. Their steaks are cooked to perfection, and are beautifully presented, with the option of various sauces and toppings (such as the crab-based Oscar). My favorite here though is their Rack Of Lamb, which is simply delectable. On my most recent visit, I opted for a seafood entree for the first time (the Sea Scallops), and enjoyed it thoroughly. Moist and flavorful, with a light wine and butter-based sauce, and not over-cooked, as seafood and fish can often be at many restaurants. Decadent dessert selection. Overall, I really enjoy this place, and they are almost in a dead heat with The Famous for best steakhouse in Colorado Springs (I adore each for different reasons.) Pricewise, I think this place is reasonable, based upon the service, atmosphere and high quality of food and drink. Highly recommended by this hard-to-please critic.

I've been here at least 3 times (and I don't live in CO). My last visit was a couple of weeks ago. I got the prime rib and thoroughly enjoyed it. Cooked exactly the way I ordered (m rare). I also had the wedge salad which I liked, too. The service was good. Solid all around. I will be back.

  • Brad F.

Eaten here many times over the years and they have been consistently good. The steaks and sides are excellent. Wedge salad was perfect and wasn't smothered in dressing. My NY Strip was cooked medium rare just like I ordered it and was lean and mean. Excellent diverse wine list. Drinks contain a healthy shot, and aren't watered down. If you aren't a steak eater there are many other high quality choices. My wife enjoyed the crab cakes quite a bit. Service is also very good. Throughout the night we had three people serving, clearing, pouring water... Great place for a nice dinner, client meeting or celebration.

Parking on a Saturday night was just a matter of a few rounds around the block. We were initially seated at a small table with two settings and cramped, uncomfortable dining conditions. The seating was at a ninety degree angle with dated upholstery. After bringing the situation up to our waitress, we were seated at a table for four by a window that was comfortable for two. The cold could be felt coming through the windows although the windows didn't open. I dined the entire time with my winter coat on. COMPLIMENTS TO THE CHEF and the wait staff. The menu was overly complex and a little cofusing, but well worth spending the time to get familiar with. My house salad was the best I have ever had. My prime rib had a little too much fat on it for my taste. The oysters and the wine were delicious. A boy at the end of our meal brought us a slice of tiramisu on a plate when I had asked for the creme brule to go. The situation was remedied. Over-all, the food and service were excellent.

The last time I was here was a couple years ago, but this is by far the best steakhouse I've ever been to, and I don't even live in Colorado! The quality of the food was superb and the staff very attentive and professional. The food was delicious, though I must admit, I enjoyed the appetize's a little more than my entree that night (Seared scallops in a berry sauce). For entrees my family our family ordered the surf and turf, cioppino, pork chops, prime rib and scallops. The waiter asked my family how our food was, and my mother calmly mentioned that her meat was a little dry but still good. They insisted on taking it off the tab and even comped a dessert to make up for it. The most memorable dish of the night (other than my brother's surf and turf platter) was the chocolate bread pudding. We still talk about it to this day, and we've been very fortunate to try many desserts from all sorts of places. So, YOU KNOW that means it has to be to die for delicious. I also recently purchased a gift ceritficate for this restaurant and I promptly received a hand typed note ( not a form letter) along with my receipt thanking me for my patronage. It was actually signed by a real person!!! That is something that happens very rarely these days. All in all, I appreciate the food and service at MacKenzie's!

A lowly one star rating? How can that be? After all, we checked YELP for C Springs steakhouse recommendations and found a number of impressive reviews for Mackenzie's Chop House. We therefore anticipated a great dinning experience at MCH. Once at the steakhouse, our party of four was seated in short order, the service was first rate. We ordered a variety of appetizers and entrees, including salads, soups, steaks, fish and chicken dishes... all quite tasty. After a pleasant dinning experience we paid the bill, tipped well... and parted for the night. It was only after departing that two of the four diners fell violently ill in the middle of the night (the ones who had the French Onion Soup). Now mine you, we're all in excellent health, had no alcohol beverages with the meal, and were in bed by 10:00 PM. Without going into detail... I can assure you I have never been thorough this much pain after a meal... and would not wish this on anyone. Alarmed, we attempted to call the MCH General Manager over the next few days... leaving messages / phone numbers when he couldn't be reached. We each expected some sort of response, but didn't even get a courtesy call back... WTF? Over! This lack of concern for their patrons is simply unacceptable! So there you have it... ONE STAR... at best! To put it bluntly, I wouldn't recommend this place to Osama Bin Laden... as much as he needs to be in severe pain and agony.

Nice, exclusive feeling old world steak house, but reasonable prices. The calamari and the seafood chowder are *excellent*. They have good happy hour martini specials, too. Check out their website-- they had a coupon for a free appetizer on there last time I checked. -------------------------------------------- Review edited 2/6/08: Today we ate at MacKenzie's for my birthday. Both my parents and I ordered the "New York Baseball Cut" steak, which they recommended. It was chewy, fatty, and not all that flavorful. We mentioned this to our server and she replaced it with a filet for us. And gave us two desserts. So extra kudos for the service. And I recommend the filet mignon over the baseball cut-- the filet was very very flavorful and juicy-- much better.

Went there for lunch today and had the kobe burger. It was one of the best burgers I've ever had hands down. It was a juicy, melt in your mouth kind of burger. A must have for burger fans!

This place looks like an old-school, wood-trimmed steakhouse. Great selection of beers on tap. Good selection of liquor-- catch 1/2 priced happy hour. The steak was excellent. As was the onion soup. One person in our party was not a steak person, so she had calamari and also raved.

Excellent food, cozy atmosphere and first class staff. I definitely recommend this place. I don't have much to add to the other reviews except that the main difference between MacKenzie's and The Famous is that MacKenzie's is the quieter, darker, cozier place while The Famous is boisterous and open. They are both excellent places to eat.

Nice steak house feel in older CS building. I always had very good steaks here. The bar area is a good spot for a drink. I was also at private party in the back room and it was very nice.

You get what you pay for and I felt every ounce of the steak and other dishes we had were generally well worth it. I've had their oysters both ways, but their presentation of oysters rockefeller was especially wonderful. Large, succulent oysters, good nuggets of bacon, some cheese... Great steaks of course which is the main draw. And impeccable service. Tiramisu dessert was delicious and gigantic. Only complaint, if I had to nitpick, was the spinach salad. Delicious, but it seemed a bit like something I could have made myself with grated parmesan, bags of fresh-open-the-bag-and-eat spinach and some out of the box croutons. Also, my friend was a bit underwhelmed by the bean burrito relleno that sounded much better than it was.

Second night in Colorado Springs. Again, we had reservations so we were seated very promptly. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. The decor is rich and dark, but not so dark as to be a distraction. It is also very clean. Lots of choice from the menu. We shared some appetizers. The portions were about right in that each one could serve four people. The service was good, not great, but well above average. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. I had the bone in New York strip. It was very good, but not nearly the standard that I use for steaks. Jack and Rosie's in Yuma has much better steaks. Everybody in my parting was very happy with their meals. Parking is on the street. Would I go back. Yes.

Met a friend for dinner who was visiting Colorado Springs and figured I'd give this place another try because I like the location, ambiance and drinks. The whole experience was so mediocre. * Service was very slow and the waitress was clueless about the menu - not to mention her recommendations were not good. * My steak w. "melted blue cheese" was cold - like never melted at all * My wife's order was messed up. Wrong sides and under cooked steak. * My upgraded side of asparagus was some pathetic look skinny spears with missing heads * Portions were not adequate for price There are too many other upscale steak houses to keep coming back here. On the plus side the drinks were very good.

This is a nice restaurant that doesn't have any pretentiousness. The price is a bit lower than most steak joints which gives some decent value. I had the onion soup which tasted good. The presentation was strange with 4 pieces of bread on top which was supposed to simulate a crouton i guess. The liquor pours were above average which was nice. I ordered the 12 oz filet which was tender and delicious although slightly cooked over my preferred true medium. We'd visit this place again next time we're back in town .

Great steak at Mckenzie's! Joined some of my coworkers after work here on Jay's recommendation. Nice attentive waitstaff, surroundings pleasant, pub like. Prices about even with the type of restaurant this is. Side dishes also good! Dessert looked tasty but I didn't partake. I'd go here again and recommend for dinner.

30th wedding anniversary and Mackenzie's was aware as the husband advised when making reservations. Was excited to enjoy a lovely dinner at this restaurant. Husband ordered Filet Mignon and was relatively happy with dish. I ordered HALIBUT and unfortunately, it was severely overcooked -- to the point of crunchy. Absolutely ruined one of the best fish filets on the planet. "Chef" clearly was not skilled to prepare this dish. Took one bite and had to return it. Ordered a salad instead. Linda, MOD, did stop by the table to offer apologies, but nothing more. Was expecting some sort of compensation (complimentary salad, at least), but nothing. Bright spots: atmosphere / decor / historical aspect, and our waitress who was professional, pleasant and very apologetic. Sadly, DO NOT RECOMMEND dinner, or specifically the Hallibut.

The seating was horrible for my party of 6, they mainly only have booths so for us it was uncomfortable.. The drinks are amazing but the food ehh you want a great steak head towards Denver and the prime rib at Texas t is better and cheaper.. I travel a lot so for the prices you prob could get better else where.. All our steaks were cooked in correctly.. I heard good things maybe it was our chef that night but I won't be going back to see.

I was there with my brother and his wife. We got seated immediately. We got our drink order taken ASAP. The server was attentive and fun, but not intrusive. The food and drink were excellent at each course. The drinks were awesome. Dessert was great. And the atmosphere is what a steakhouse should be. We'll go back if we visit here again.

Normally I would give this place four or five stars. We usually go there about once a month but it's now on our list of last resorts. This past visit was a major disappointment. We were there to celebrate our anniversary. I always order a Dirty Bird martini to start. In the past there was always enough in the shaker for two pours. Maybe times are getting tough for them because I was given one pour and it didn't taste like premium vodka. It wasn't the smooth taste that it used to have. Disappointing. Our appetizer was good, followed by salads and well cooked porterhouse steaks. The low star rating is due to the service lacking and servers who don't seem to care about making money. I had to ask to have my water refilled, for empty plates to be removed. Rarely did we see our server and if we did she only asked if everything was okay in passing. She didn't actually stop to hear a response. At some point in the evening we had a new server who said that our server was caught up helping another table. So...we never saw our server for the rest of the night. Classy. When we needed boxes someone new helped us and just tossed the to go boxes on the table. Sorry for a $140 bill, I expect better service than that. Of all the times that I've been to MacKenzies, this was by far the most disappointing. Not sure how soon it will be until we go back. I get better service at the Broadmoor for the same price or $50 more. If you want mediocre service for the price of four or five star service, you found the place! I don't care how good my porterhouse was, bad service is what I'll remember about my experience there.

This was a very special meal, for a very special friend, I let her pick the venue, and I was not disappointed! From the romantic rustic personality of the resturaunt to the extremly friendly knowledgeable staff, nothing was left to chance, I would have to say, as good as if not better than Morton's! One of the best meals out I have ever experienced. The only disapointment was the night had to end!! Rings were exchanged.

I wish I didn't feel obligated to write this review. But wow. If you want raw chicken - this is your kind of place. If you want your wedding rehearsal dinner ruined - go here. Unbelievable. You'd expect better at 50 bucks a person but no... Not possible. Very disappointing experience.

My husband and I had our latest anniversary night out here and it was great. It wasn't very busy on this particular Saturday due to the crappy weather but regardless our service was prompt. The steaks my husband and I had were cooked to perfection, juicy and tender. The lobster I ordered could have been cooked just a bit more but was still good. I loved the choices of drinks they have on the menu. I also particularly loved that for $11 you basically get 2 martinis. The creme Brule was not a hit with me. Granted I had never had it before and maybe I just don't like it, but it wasn't very good. I wish I would have gotten the cheesecake. Overall we really enjoyed this restaurant and will definitely come back.

My husband and I love this place. We usually go there for lunch because they have a lovely lunch menu and the prices are lower. The portion sizes for lunch are also generous. I always get the filet and my husband gets something from the menu of the day or their regular lunch menu. Food and service are always outstanding and drinks are also good. We also go here for dinner for special occasions.

It doesn't live up to the hype. The food was good but not great. NOT kid-friendly by any means. Our daughter is chatty. That's it! Not running around or annoying to other customers like children I've seen in other restaurants. The server and other patrons made it clear that we shouldn't have brought her. Won't make the same mistake twice. Hey if having a child dining with us is a reason to turn your nose up at our money for your overpriced entrées, we'll get a better steak at Outback.

Very rarely do my husband and I get to splurge on a really good steak so when we got a gift card for Mackenzie's we were elated. We did not make reservations but were able to sit in the lounge which was quite nice. I ordered the filet and he ordered the NY strip. Both were cooked to perfection- melt in your mouth goodness. We also ordered crab cakes and calamari which were delicious. The service was fantastic and everything came out in perfect timing. Just a perfect experience. Dinner and drinks here is pricey ($200 for a couple) but really worth it when you can splurge.

Went there for dinner tonight and best the best way I can describe it in just a few words is; we're glad we had a coupon! We've been wanting to go here for a while, but based on the poor reviews we were hesitant. When we received a coupon in the mail we decided we'd give it a try. We are frequent diners around the Colorado springs area and I can honestly say this place is one of the worst places for the price in Colorado springs. Walking in the place has a nice ambiance. Low lighting and nice hardwood booths speak of a high end steak house. The wait staff was nice enough but more towards the quality that would be working at a normal chain restaurant on Powers. My wife ordered a glass of wine that was titled "reserve" and it was old and vinegary. To the point where she could not drink any more and had to send it back. This from a person who rarely sends anything back. They were nice enough to take it off our ticket, but there wasn't a sorry from our wait staff or a visit from a manager to express their regret. The menu looked like it has decent options and the pricing was what we expected from a nice chophouse. My wife ordered the 8 oz NY strip and I ordered the 10 oz NY baseball cut both medium rare. When the steaks came out or first thought was that they looked great. The "fresh vegetable" (steamed broccoli and carrots) sides were lacking in character. After the first cut into my steak I was pleased, it looked a little under cooked, but within a reasonable amount and nice and juicy. My wife's steak was cooked well and had a decent flavor. The more I cut into my steak the more rare it became too the point where I couldn't eat anymore. The center was cold, dark red, and chewy. I ended up taking the last 3 oz home to my dog. To top off the bad meal, they charged us a $ our two more than the menu prices for some of the items. This was just more of an annoyance to top of the already sub par meal. We will definitely never return to this place. I now know why they are sending out coupons in the mail.

We ordered the Oysters for appetizers, a Bloody Mary, prime rib and rack of lamb for entrees and a toffee creation for dessert. The oysters and Bloody Mary were very enjoyable. The BM has body and bite. The prime rib came out cold, with fatty globs. My dining partner took two bites and couldn't continue. I shared 1/2 my lamb with him. The rack of lamb was subdued in flavor. The dessert was not as toffee in flavor as I would have liked. It was more caramel. The saving grace of this experience was the staff who were very attentive. Maybe we ordered one of their weaker items. I'd go back just for their servers. They make it a redeemable experience.

Decent service but the food made up for it. Took my fiancé here for our anniversary and got the filet mignon medium rare. The steak melted in my mouth and the baked potato was amazing. Probably the best food I've ever eaten in my life, I'll be back for the food, but not the service, I give better service at my restaurant which is chilis lol. Says a lot.

I want to give this place four stars, but they need to improve on a few things. I have been here twice and have left satisfied both times. I had the lamb one time and the veal ravioli the other. Both dishes were tasty, but we're slightly deficient in presentation and execution. I wanted to try the panna cotta the first time I went, but was told that all the panna cotta they had was "moldy." (The server could have told me anything, but decided to go with that!?) As disconcerting as that was I requested it on my second visit and it was exquisite. I come here mostly because this is the only place in town that I know of that serves fresh oysters. They're excellent! They have a really nice bar and great drinks. You can probably get a better meal at a place like the Warehouse or the Rabbit Hole for the money though.

What happened? I used to go to MacKenzie's quite often for lunch and dinner but had not been here for a couple of years until tonight. First the drinks, I had a Manhattan Gone A-Rye cocktail, which was advertised as a twist on a Sazerac. Well, I think instead of done the "dash" of Absinthe as should be in a Sazerac, they mixed what seemed to be a half ounce in the drink, so I felt as if I was drinking Absinthe straight. My wife had the Side Car Noir and it was better but seemed very watered down and we've had better elsewhere in Colorado Springs. The food, we ordered French Onion soup for the starter and it came out served in a small cast iron skillet. Interesting presentation and decent flavor. For our entrees, my wife ordered the filet. Which came out barely at room temperature on a cold plate and very unevenly cooked. The "fresh" vegetables seemed to be frozen and they weren't warm either, nor was the baked potato. I ordered the prime rib and well, it was luke warm and on a cold plate as well, had no flavor even after I added a healthy bit of salt and pepper. The au jus was also luke warm and quite sweet tasting so it didn't help bring out any flavor in the steak. Same result with the vegetables and potato. Overall, we were severely disappointed and wondered where the quality has gone. The reason we gave it two stars is the ambience, which is still great but there is better steak to be found elsewhere now.

A little dark and dated, but the food is excellent and so are the drinks. It's a great place for a power lunch...or afternoon backgammon and bourbon like the gentlemen next to us. Pick your poison. Just the tip: order of the "Fresh" menu is there is something on there you like. Don't let it pass you by.

Disappointed. The calamari was descent but not great. The dry aged steak was an excellent cut, and had good flavor but wasn't cooked evenly. I ordered a medium rare and it was definitely rare with a cool touch in parts. I didn't mind too much as it was still tasty but I expected better prep. Ultimately, it was our poor service that left a bad taste in my mouth. I ordered a very rare bourbon and asked for it neat. It was brought out with ice and I immediately made the correction. I think our waitress was embarrassed because after that she was a ghost. She walked by our table multiple times without asking if we needed anything, which we did, so we had to flag down other people for service. Not what I expected

Great restaurant in an old building! Being from California, it was cool to enter a restaurant form below the street. The food was delicious, we ordered from the bar and had the seared Ahi Tuna app along with the Beef and Brie, which is a great app to start with. The martinis were excellent and the wine list was decent. My wife and I will definitely come back to visit, maybe just for a night on the town.

It's great I love it here. Really romantic but suitable for families. I always order half shell oysters and they are fresh fresh fresh. The salmon is always cooked well and they have these wasabi potatoes that are creamy and spicy. Great service every time I go.

I was in town on business and my prospects wanted steak. I checked on Yelp and MacKenzies had the most positive comments so I made a reservation. We were not disappointed! I had the carpaccio, which was the best I've ever tasted. It came with capers, montrachet croutons, olive oil and roasted elephant garlic cloves served with crostini and some field greens.. I'm still dreaming about how good it was. We also ordered Caesar salads made with anchovies(in my mind the only way to eat a Caesar Salad), NY Strip Steaks and the Center Cut Pork Chops. My associate said it was the best Pork Chop he ever ate. The service was attentive but relaxed. A place I'd definitely go back to and recommend to anyone visiting Colorado Springs.

Many years ago I used to like MacKenzie's. But the last 3 years have been disappointing. It never is 100% balanced - if the service is good, the food isn't, and vice versa. This last time, our server was extremely polite, accommodating, and quietly friendly, as was the guy who poured our waters for us. The calamari was actually ok, but I wasn't Wow'd by my filet mignon. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad. It was just very MEH. Not sure what would've made it better, though - better beef sources? More salt and pepper? A better bacon? I can't quite figure it out. The results were pretty much the same as my other recent visits. Drinks are pretty good, and Happy Hour can be a great deal.

While staying at the Broadmoor is treat, we wanted to experience the restaurants around town. You will not be disappointed with this eatery. The steaks are cooked like an outdoor Grill with real char marks and smokey flavor. They served a lobster tail with it that tasted just like the sea and melted in your mouth( with real melted butter) exceptional!!!

Nice ambiance, good food, terrible service. I would like to give it more stars because the food was pretty good, but I can't because the service was so terrible. We waited more than five minutes for waters and a simple hello from our waitress (Wendy? She never told us her name), who only visited our table twice during the whole meal. That's unacceptable. She was rude, abrupt, and uninterested in our experience. It seemed like she didn't care about us at all. We ordered the tuna appetizer which was excellent and came out quickly. However, it was delivered by someone other than our server. Maybe a food runner? But he ended up taking care of us the rest of the evening. Our original server gave us our drinks and our checks...that's it. It was very strange and EXTREMELY annoying. She never even stopped by to ask us how our entrees were. As a server myself I tend to be more critical when dining out, but this was just awful service. We expected much more from a fine dining restaurant. The only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one is because of the food.

  • Ann P.

Expected much more for the price :( It took 30 minutes to get bread, saw our waitress twice, and 3 of the 5 meals were luke warm (one was cold)!!! The only reason there are 2 stars, the flavor of the food was good. I have had better service at Chilli's...go to Marigolds instead.

This was our favorite place for years. However, the last two times we have been disappointed as the food is not the same quality and tastes like an amateur made it! I tried it again after being disappointed the last time and it was horrible. The steak was chewy so we sent it back for a different one and it was a little tender but no flavor and a horrible cut of meat! The broccoli I could have made at home and the rice was less than desirable. It's pretty bad when you pay 30 bucks for a steak dinner and get it to go then forget about it and give it to the dog.

We were invited here for a business dinner. It has been years since I've been in here, since there were problems with staff and food in the past. Since my partner and I arrived early, we stopped in at the bar. They serve the weakest Jack Daniels and water that I have ever had except for complementary ones in casinos ($7). After the other couple arrived, we were seated far back in the back, as had been requested. The service was good, with multiple waiters waiting on our table. After the experience with the poured drink, I ordered a beer, and found that they don't have even the most common beers on tap. When the Coors Light arrived, it was 47° (Yes, I carry a Therma Pen). Ridiculous. The prime rib was cooked perfectly, and was hot and delicious. The bar manager needs a boot in the butt, and his lack of attention degrades the otherwise excellent dining experience.

This was our GO-TO place for anniversary or birthday, but any more. We have been more than ten times and each time we got disappointed of their service. They are doing 'team service' but it doesn't seem to working at all. I got my steak very under-cooked but nobody came to check on us until they brought us a check on my birthday. They never came to ask how our food was tasting nor wanted more water, nor wanted dessert or anything! just brought a check to us! That was unacceptable for an high-end restaurant. We even left a note to their manager, because we wanted them to fix this kind of problem but never heard from them for over 3 months. Don't go there with too high expectation!

Was told by a local friend that this was the best steakhouse in Colorado Springs, so my expectations may have been a tad high. I've eaten at most of the good ones as I entertain clients and steak is usually what they pick. The food wasn't the best but the service was terrible. We were asked about 4 times in the first 10 minutes if we were ready to order, and the waitress never bothered to try to establish any kind of rapport with anyone at the table. My glass had a nice crack in it and it was treated like Ho hum! Overall, the Food was adequate and the chef had some interesting specials but I won't be going back there anytime soon.

I really liked the food! They have amazing service. They are pretty good priced and they have a wonderful selection of meats. The bison is so tender and has a great taste. I personally had an 8oz. NY strip and loved it. The meats are cooked to order and they are lean. I did not find any fat on my strip. I appreciate the service and the atmosphere. If you want a nice peaceful restauraunt to enjoy a wonderful evening, McKenzies is the place to go.

I arrived at the patio early to get seats for happy hour since my wife and coworkers would be arriving soon. There were no adjoining tables available so I grabbed one table next to a lounge nook. After getting halfway through my appetizer we were asked to either keep the table or the nook but not both. My wife wanted the nook even though it was not cleaned. The waitress grabbed my food and put it on the dirty table with fallen leaves and dust and then put my unused silverware on top of the food. I believe she used my cloth napkin to wipe the table after putting my food down and no new/clean napkin was offered. This is not a good service practice! I left then, my wife and coworkers stayed, and called to talk to a manager from home and to explain why I would be writing this review. He agreed that this should not have happened and asked if he could do anything. I asked him to apologize to my wife and coworkers. The one positive note is that the artichoke dip was good although the bread bowl it came in was soggy from the outside on one side of it.

I had the ravioli. Gross. I think it was just too...too...hippified. I should have ordered steak but I had just eaten steak the night before. My friend said his food was just OK. The place look really nice and the waitress did a good job. Just don't get the ravioli.

Went here with a group of probably 60. The restaurant did a good job of getting us all seated and servicing our group. The wait staff was very attentive and knew there menu. I ordered the fillet and we all enjoyed side dishes served family style. The fillet was thick and very well cooked. Dessert was tiramisu and it was great! All of our group enjoyed there meal.

Ended up here last Saturday night for dinner. I had heard it was a bit pricey, but must say being from Denver I must be used to the prices at a good restaurant. One of my guests who had been there before told me it looked like the place hasn't changed at all in three years since he'd been here. Having not been here before I had to take his word on that. The place was pretty dark, and the table we were seated at was enormous for four, but we didn't mind. They give you a team of 2 servers. They were both very friendly, and helpful. Started out with some cocktails and a bottle of wine, and the artichoke dip. It came in a bread bowl with broccoli, carrots, celery and corn chips. I must say that it was absolutely delicious! Our table had the dry aged New York, bone in, and the filets. I must say that they cooked all to perfection and the dry aged was delicious. The white cheddar mashed potatoes were so good we left the asparagus on the plate! The lobster macaroni and cheese was also perfect. Had a good amount of lobster, nice creamy, cheesy flavor without being overwhelming. Will definitely go back!

I was suspicious that the food and service here were going to be mediocre based on the more recent yelp reviews, but my family and I were in town for Thanksgiving and this was the only place we found a reservation in the evening. I booked a reservation through a third party online reservation site for 6:00 that evening. We arrived to a dimly lit flight of stairs that was covered in leaves and debris that led to the entrance. The inner waiting room was sparsely decorated with a few pictures, old furniture and terribly lit (think doctor's office circa 1973). There were maybe 4-5 parties of approx. 4 people waiting to be seated in the main waiting area. We arrived at 5:45 and checked in with the hostess. She just simply said "OK it will be a while since you are early". We ended up waiting until 7:15 before we were sat. During this time 3 large parties came in (all of whom I overheard say that they had 6:00 reservations) they were sat within 10 minutes while the smaller parties were kept waiting. Obviously the hostesses were told to seat the big parties in order to get the check. Come to find out later that the restaurant was trying to close at 7:00 and they wanted to make sure and trap the big parties in there. After waiting for about an hour my wife went to hostess stand to throw away something, while there she asked how much longer it was going to be. The hostess said "oh you are next to be seated...right after these three". Again, being Thanksgiving and reservations being scarce, I was putting up with more than normal. I guess the restaurant knew this too and was doing their best to be as callous and unaccommodating as possible. When we were finally brought into the dining room I was surprised to see that there were numerous open tables. The hostess brought us to a back corner table and said "I don't know where any menus are, I'll see if I can find some, here's a drink menu". ***Spoiler Alert***, she never came back. The table was an absolute physical joke. It was shaped like a baseball home plate and was placed so that there were no comfortable or logical positions to sit and eat comfortably. To make matter worse, the table was covered with butcher paper over a linen (one my biggest pet peeves for a restaurant). That is fine for a pizza by the slice joint, but come on, you want people to pay for a "fine dining" experience but won't even pay for linen service. It is that kind of skimping that makes one wonder where else they are trying to cut costs..mmmm...in the food maybe? After 10 minutes or so of just sitting there, the waitress comes by to say she will be "right back". 5 minutes later a guy comes by and slops down some water, and I meant slops literally. Being careful to grab each glass by the rim, he sat them down in the middle of the table. He must have been a busboy or expediter because his untucked white wrinkled shirt was covered in food. So here we are now, an hour and a half after our reservation time, shoved into the weird shaped table, no menus and water glasses that have been groped so we can't drink out of them. Finally the waitress comes back, no introduction or salutation of any sort, just asks what we would like to drink. My daughter asks for a sparkling water. The waitress shoots rudely back, "you want tap or bottle?" Now I know Colorado Springs is great city, but sparkling water from tap, now that is living! My daughter tried to explain that she is wanting soda water and lemon, but the waitress just curtly interrupts her and says "I'll just bring you tap water". Normally at this point I would have put a stop to the waitress, but I guess I was still mesmerized pondering the idea of sparkling water from the tap. She takes my wife's and son's drink order and my daughter tried to explain again what she wants. My wife finally says carbonated water from the bar like you put in a mixed drink. The waitress then makes this surly "whatever" face and gesture. At this point I have had enough and get up to tell her we are leaving. She acts like she is shocked. I tell her we have had enough and we are leaving. She storms off never to be seen again. As we are walking out I see that there are still people in the waiting room that were there when we were...keep in mind still numerous open tables in dining room. Taking the risk of not being able to have my family have a Thanksgiving dinner by walking out was far more appealing than suffering through this place any longer. I was expecting a camera crew to appear at any minute and reveal this was a practical joke TV show. Fortunately we were able to enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving meal at another location (please see my other review from this date). The coup de grace...before we reach our car I get an email that my reservation had been canceled. Hostesses must have been instructed to do this so a review could not be submitted on the reservation site.

Great atmosphere. Thats about it. The food has not been enjoyable the last few trips. From Prime Rib that was more like Beef Jerky to bland underseasoned potatoes. I hope something changes because I used to eat there every week. Now I have switched my routine to something a little more enjoyable.

My husband & I enjoyed a wonderful dinner here tonight!! The arugula-pear salad was one if the best salads I've ever had!! :) I had a perfectly cooked salmon entree & my husband had a perfectly cooked sirloin-- slathered with blue cheese! Even the before dinner bread was a hot, fresh, yummy sourdough!! The ambiance was romantic & we'll be back!!

The food was amazing. Ordered a cowboy Cut Ribeye, it was extremely tender, the white Cheddar mashed potatoes were delicious, and the vegetables were very good also. For desert I ordered a sticky toffee pudding cake; it was extremely rich and sweet. Absolutely loved it. Ordered a blue moon martini, that too was great.

Exceptionally poor. Mussels were tiny, but they make up for it by giving you half a burned baguette. Oysters were pre-shucked and refrigerated which made them dry and tasteless. Eau jus served with the prime rib was like water. Service was uncaring, Ill trained and inattentive. Management equally so. We will never return.

Prime Rib Hoax Dined here recently and ordered the large cut of prime rib medium rare. It was charred on the outside and just warm on the inside. I believe this was part of a roast that was not properly cooked or a rib eye steak and the chef decided to quick cook the outside and then somehow quick cook the rest to pass it off as prime rib. It was not a properly cooked prime rib as it was not tender and was not what results from slow baking or roasting a rime rib. The flat sides of the roast interior were brown, only when I cut into it was there any pink of a medium rare cut. I understand the difficulty restaurants have selling good prime rib because they either run out or end up with a lot left over. However, for the price this places charges, they need to either cook a real prime rib or remove it from the menu. The wait staff was slow and service was only mediocre. Bar service was good. We will not be returning anytime soon.

Food is good, but nothing to rave over. My 1st impression was the smell, definitely time to clean the carpets...and the walls. Our booth had food stains all over the wood wall trim, the dingy smell, dirty walls and dark/outdated decor gives a poor 1st impression. But overall, Service was excellent, very sweet & attentive service staff. Filet was great, mash was very typical and plain, steamed veggies average. Cioppino was good, shrimp a bit overcooked and chewy, but great flavor. Would not return, too many great places in the springs to eat.

Very nice. Pros: Crab/lobster cake appetizer was perfect. Bartender made all the drinks perfectly. Steaks were seasoned and cooked to order. Our server was prompt, polite and accurate. Cons: Feels like they skimped on the side dishes. The veggie medley was 95% broccoli with 8 or 10 tiny slivers of carrot. That's not a medley! White cheddar mashed potatoes could have used some white cheddar. Tiramisu was too mushy. Overall, 4 stars. For the price, I expect the food to be made a bit better. The flaws appear to be in the kitchen.

The difference between 'dining' and 'going out to eat' Finally made it here for an informal business dinner last week, and I have to say I was quite impressed. It has the slower paced atmosphere that I prefer, where you are given time between courses. I allowed the waitress to select my wine which a perfect pairing! I asked for my ahi to be seared on the outside and raw on the inside - it was perfect. All in all a very enjoyable meal and experience. If you enjoy somewhere like a Ruby-Apple-TGI-Chilli - with screaming kids running around, and where you are rushed to order, and handed your check before you're done eating, and the next party is sitting at your table before you've even put your coat on...Mackenzie's is not the place for you. However if you don't mind paying a little extra to have trained chefs, knowledgeable servers, good wine, and a perfectly prepared meal, I'd highly recommend it!

The restaurant has a classic, dark steakhouse feel. The service was very good with multiple waiters and waitress helping us the entire meal. Our drinks did not go unfilled as well. The food was quite good but nothing was amazing. The steaks were cooked properly and seasoned well, the sides were fine.

I thought long and hard about this review (and after a couple of more visits) before I posted it. It seems like the Chop House is on a long, slow decline. The food quality is less than what it used to be, the service is less consistent, and its just not the same experience. The place is pretty much the same as it has ever been, but something is just off. I have had 3 meals here since my last review and it has been all over the place. The burger I had on my last visit was undercooked on the inside, but charred on the outside. Presentation was sloppy too. Maybe its just me. Judge for yourself. But I think people might be of similar mind, because its a lot less busy that it used to be.

Bleh. Not very good. Came with a group of six friends for two of the girls birthday. Atmosphere is nice enough, dark, looks the way you'd imagine a steakhouse should. The service was also fine. But the food was totally bland. We started off with some oysters, which were fine.We put tons of horseradish and lemon ourselves anyway. I also had one of their many specialty martinis. I can't recall the name but it had strawberry, mint, and jalapeno. It was fine, didn't really have the kick I was expecting. For my meal, my friend and I thought several things sounded good, so we decided to share. She had the surf and turf and I got the scallops and risotto. She took her first bite and exclaimed, "omg this steak tastes like baloney!" Oddly enough, it really did. The lobster was also very bland. I tried my scallops, they were a bit too chewy and the risotto didn't have much flavor. The restaurant offered the girls free dessert for their birthday, which was nice, but the tiramisu didn't make up for the rest of the yucky meal.

After hearing about this place, I was excited to try it. The decor is pretty nice and we were seated by the fire place. When we arrived the fire place was off but we asked them to turn it on and it was nice to have dinner by the fire. The service was excellent, our server was friendly, efficient and had a sense of humor. We were there on a Sunday so all of the drinks were half off. The drinks are really, really good! If you're in the area you should definitely try the happy hour. I had the filet mignon and it was cooked perfectly! The meat was seasoned just right and a perfect medium rare. My sister had some pasta dish which was really good. We ordered the chocolate cake for dessert and it was very rich, a bit much for me. I would definitely go back for the drinks!

The rating needs to be sepatated between food, location and service - The food is outstanding, perfect place for a business lunch or dinner, impress a date or to go somewhere a little more upscale. The menu is pages long and the chef will prepare whatever you order anyway you request. 5 stars for the menu and food! The location isn't bad, its downtown CoS, parking can be limited like anwhere - 4 stars, 5 if they get valet. Now here is where MacKenzies falls flat on their face - the service is awful, wait staff and bartneders must all bet to see who can give the worst service before they get fired, yes, that bad. On a slower evening, the bartender decided to wash glasses than to serve our group as well as those on both sides of us, the wait staff seemed resentful that we were taking up their time (maybe keeping them from the bartneder??). Seriously, this was an example of how not to run a restaraunt. 1 star. Overall, if you can get past the awful wait staff, you will get a wonderful meal.

The family went here for Christmas Eve dinner, making it our third visit for Dec 24th in the past five years. It was TERRIFIC. We had a great table & wait staff; good win and service. Around the table, we had soup, salad, Cioppino, Filet Mignon, Pork, shrimp cocktails, and several desserts. Everything was great, and we all concluded that it was the best celebration dinner we've had in recent years. A little bit pricey; but, worth every cent! With adults & teens all happy, we'll definitely go back!

I came here for a birthday dinner with my girlfriend. Having been to the Famous during restaurant week, I was honestly a little skeptical of steakhouses in the area. Ambiance was nice, not super classy and ritzy like the Famous. We ended up getting an artichoke dip I believe which was good. I got the bone in ribeye and it was cooked well and wasn't overly salty or tasteless. It was a solid steak. They actually forgot to give us a desert for my bday but the hostess actually remembered it was for my bday so she had us get a desert to go at the bar. Overall, I enjoyed my time and the food was solid.

Worst service I've had at a restaurant in a while and my medium rare steak was, in my opinion, very rare. Besides that it was great, but I won't be coming here again.

  • Will L.

Waitress was amazing; the cook reversed the temps of our steaks, she sent it back ASAP with no questions asked. I'd call it a fluke, but the table behind us had the same trouble. Mine was supposed to be rare but came out MedRare-Med on the second attempt. The funny part was that this is a *steakhouse* and the steaks were really kinda tough. For applebees, I wouldn't mind that much. But this place does $40-$50 steaks... in the west.. kinda hard to compete on weak offerings and high prices. Wine menu was extensive but a little expensive; 4-5 times the wholesale price of the same bottle. Lower your expectations..

Of you're looking for a good steak in Colorado Springs, this place does is old school. It's really dark inside and the privacy makes it seem like you have the place to yourself. I went old school too, and dined on a Bleu Cheese wedge and prime rib. I would definitely go back.

Good overall. The vegetable medley was Cleary frozen, which for an expensive entree price is unacceptable. Just get some fresh veggies, and enhance the plate.

Best prime rib I have ever had! We came from California and asked local to recommend steak house. Then here we are at MacKenzine's Chop House! It's a nice restaurant located in downtown area with good food and service. The price and portion is really reasonable comparing to California. Great choice for dinner.

This place is pricey but you definitely get what you pay for! I have never had a better steak! I always get the Filet Mignon wrapped in bacon with the bordelaise sauce. This will be my last meal, if I have any choice in the matter! Also, try their martinis! I had a spicy one made with Absolut Peppar and it was out of this world! They are pricey, but you get the filled martini glass and the shaker with wahtever's left inside (usually about 1 and a half more drinks), so it ends up being well worth the price. The service here is always great and if I were rich, I would come here more often. Until then though, I will have to just wait for a special occassion.

Dependable quality dinning experience. The food is delicious and they always cook our steaks to perfection. I have never been let down by the chop house.

Not very vegetarian friendly (it is a chop house after all) but I always get the blue wedge and the chocolate cake, both super delicious. Very romantic atmosphere, GREAT martinis!

+ By far some of the best food I've ever had in The Springs. Great happy hour rates on drinks and apps (however, Kobe beef nachos were bland and greasy). - The service was VERY lacking especially in the bar area. We actually asked to be moved to the dinin

Went here for wife's birthday. Wait staff very friendly. Had the rib eye which was cooked perfectly. Son had the wedge salad for dinner and I took some of it; also well done and used real bacon bits which should be expected, however, not always the case. Wife had the Bison hanger steak (medium) which came out more rare than it should have. Being it was her birthday and the meal was improperly cooked, I have to give it three stars.

We enjoyed our anniversary dinner at McKenzie's very much! I asked for virgin martinis and got 2 awesome tasting drinks! We had the wedge salad, tuna appetizer, and the oysters on the half shell to start. They were all wonderful! I had the red snapper and my husband had the New York Strip. They were excellent. Pete is a talented chef and Ramsey is a fabulous bartender! Our waitresses were knowledable and prompt with their service!

Thanksgiving Dinner there; disappointing. Despite reservation, were seated WAAY in the back, next to the wait station. Fixed Menu of turkey/fixins or prime rib. All of it average or below, I could do better at home. I recommend go there for happy hour, have a martini, go someplace else for dinner.

Okay: Review update time. I contacted management about the experience below, and I was contacted almost immediately. The gentleman was cordial, apologetic, and all things that the responsible party of a disastrous experience like we had should be. He did what he could in his power to make it right. He did not offer excuses, but viable reasons backed by apologies and promises to rectify the situation and prevent it from happening to others. We have not been back yet, we live way north, but his attitude and competent skills at being honest with dissatisfied customers gains MacKenzie's a middle-of-the-road rating. And at least I'm now *willing* to give them another shot, whenever we have the opportunity to get down that way.

A night out in C-springs with the colleagues resulted in a quest for steak. Our path lead us down the steps of Mackenzies. Bottom line up front, it's a solid three...call it dependable, but not outstanding. The interior is what you might expect, dark wood panels, sprawling booths with high backs and dim lighting. The place was packed on a Wed night. Servers were plentiful and very friendly. End-of-the-work day beverages were in order, except for the guy who always drinks water, and I started off with a nice albeit overpriced Manhattan OTR. We all essentially ordered the same steak, a 10oz baseball cut with a reduction sauce. Nice flavor. The white cheddar mashed potatoes were thick and mildly flavored. Desserts seemed boring. MacKenzies could get pricey quick, but for a good steak, sides, app and a little booze, we all got out the door for under $60. Not too shabby and a pretty decent value for the buck.

The FIRST server was very pleasant and made suggestions for choices. However, it was my birthday and she certainly did not offer any celebratory specials. My husband and I both selected the scallops, but two different menu items. Mine was the regular menu item with the risotto and spinach. It was good, however for $30 I was expecting a very nice presentation, needless to say, I could have eaten two plates (and I am not a big eater). I was expecting large scallops and got medium ones at best... on top of a small spoonful of risotto. My husband was not pleased with his scallop choice, it was the special (however, still $30) and the sides were not tasty to him at all. No soup or salad comes with the $30 menu selection... ha, you won't even get a side of sauce unless you want to pay an additional $4. You do get a few pieces of bread, but even after requesting more, we got none. The SECOND server made her way around and asked if we were ready for our check... I guess so. We were there perhaps 40 mins - in and out. Happy birthday to me. After waiting for a special occasion to visit, we were sadly disappointed and will not return.

Nice steaks. I had the Baseball strip, however, and was a bit confused as I *thought*I knew what a strip steak looked like, and I was mistaken. Nonetheless, it was quite good and well cooked. It really didn't need the heavy sauce that they poured on it, however-I would suggest that on the side if it is desired. Dark, leather and wood atmosphere and a typical steak house ambiance. Nice wine list and some good martini selections. Not too pricey.

I went to MacKenzie's for lunch yesterday, and it was okay-- but nothing spectacular. I had the pesto caprese sandwich for lunch, which was fairly bland and a little mushy. It wasn't bad-- it just wasn't great. If I go back, I'll probably try something that they're known for-- like a burger or a big, juicy steak.

Food was poorly prepared and tasteless. We sat at the bar and service was good. If you want a steakhouse, go to Famous.

We tried the beef and brie dish for an appetizer. My wife had the scallops and I had the traditional pork chops with mashed potatoes. We felt everything was served up hot and nothing was overcooked or over seasoned. The bread they served came out warm and the butter was soft and ready to spread. Service was awesome as I could barely get my drink to half before someone was coming by and getting it refilled. This place has always been a special occasion place for us and as long as we keep having a great experience it will continue being so.

First night in Colorado Springs, celebrating a long-anticipated hang with my brother, and where are we going to have dinner? Steakhouse! (Actually, sushi was our first choice, but it stopped seating by 9pm when we arrived... so, Steakhouse!) They were super cool about seating us so late, and our server was chipper and even outgoingly friendly with us! We ordered a great bottle of Malbec, split some seared tuna with wasabi/spicy drizzle and noodles, and then dove into our mains. I ordered the "Cowboy Ribeye" and was so happy, I had to bring the leftovers with us. Too bad that having a brother hang means also having way too many drinks on your first night - at high altitude - because I don't remember what happened to those leftovers! Ha! MacKenzie's: great for a business meal or for when you just feel like living it up and celebrating.

The other day we went here for my first time. As it was my birthday I wanted to splurge a little and figured they had good reviews and a wall full of awards. I really had my hopes up... We had a pretty mediocre version of calamari but I figured oh well, whatever. Then the salad came. I don't know why, but a salad is usually how I start to judge my experience. I can make a bagged salad better than that! The lettuce was not cold or crisp, the plate did not feel chilled, the dressing was not quite right, the croutons were horrid, I couldn't even eat them. Finally the meal came - I ordered a Filet Mignon which was pretty good, I will give it that. But the mashed potatoes were blah and the steamed veggies were far too overdone. Sadly, I don't think I'll be going back. When I can get a better overall meal at Texas Roadhouse I will not be spending triple that here. Granted, I will miss the steak house experience, but if my food is blah then why bother with this place?

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Colorado Springs. Excellent food. Great service. Superb wine list and cellar. A white table cloth affair. At one time, it included a cigar hummidor and that coupled with the martini bar was like living with the Rat Pack! Still a great place to dine and have a good time.

We went here at 10:15 pm at night after a concert and we were amazed with the meal, service, and environment. We were worried because they said they "only had the limited menu" at that hour...but, what we realized was it was nearly 3 pages of great dinner food. My MF got a steak and I got Ahi tuna and it was all PERFECTION! Please go here! I was floored at how excellent it was!

$3 wine, wells and drafts. Half price Martinis and some apps. Mondays there is $14.95 for a prime rib dinner. One of the best Happy Hours in town. YES!

As I was in town for an old friend's daughter's wedding, I decided to take him and his wife and another couple out for a special dinner to catch up on things since I moved down to Tucson. As always, glad I made reservations a few days in advance as this place as it gets a little busy on the weekend. Even so, we still had a little wait past our reservation time. This was the perfect venue as they placed us in a private back room so we could to enjoy an astonishing dinner, partake in some "spirited" spirits, and catch up on times past. Shellback Angus - 5 stars (awe-inspiring) Prime Rib - 5 stars Buffalo Strip - 5 stars Halibut - 3 stars Veal Marsala - 2 stars As you can see those that didn't choose wisely (chop house = steak.....duh) weren't too impressed with their selection. After a small sampling by my cohorts I was the hands down winner with the Shellback Angus cut. Service was impeccable and prices are reasonable.

My husband and I made reservations for New Year's Eve. Unfortunately, we waited too long and the only time available was 9:30 pm. We arrived a little early, each had a GREAT cocktail at the bar (very friendly and competent bartenders). We were called for our table a little ahead of time. I was soooo disappointed they were out of scallops (I'd been looking forward to them), but the waitress was very apologetic and nice about it. My husband had the tuna, which was amazing, and I ordered a single bone in pork chop, with a wedge salad to start. We waited, and waited. Finally, the waitress let us know that our ticket had been lost/misplaced and apologized for the delay. We weren't in a big hurry, but were starting to get a little annoyed at the delay. She said there would be no charge for my salad and would comp us any dessert we wanted because of the delay. In my experience, almost every restaurant messes up occasionally. It's how they handle it that makes the big difference. She didn't blame the mess up on anyone, accepted full responsibility and did everything to make it "right". We ended up having a delicious meal and shared their apple crisp, which we couldn't stop eating. Thank you, for a very enjoyable evening, and doing everything to not have it be a disappointment!

Our board of directors had our yearly dinner here this year. That meant about 14 of us. The place is a bit of a maze with all manner of twists and turns to get to the various dining areas. But they did give us a private dining room. The menus was fairly extensive with a decent variety. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. I ordered a plain old grilled pork chop with baked spud. While everyone seem relatively pleased with their selections, I don't really see anything to rave about. In fact, my chop was slightly over cooked and therefore a bit dry. Everything was otherwise OK but given the prices charged, I was expecting more. It is a "Chop House" after all!

I'm a Chicagoan, and I know a good steakhouse. I've missed the special experience you get from a top notch Chicago steakhouse like Morton's since moving to the Springs, and MacKenzie's has certainly helped me feel more at home! The service is excellent, the food is even better. Try the bar menu!

MacKenzie's Chop House is a staple in downtown Colorado. You can go there for a wonderfully memorable dinner or as a place to unwind; hitting them up during Happy Hour (M-F 4-7pm). Whatever you go to MacKenzie's for I think you'll enjoy it. I have had the opportunity to go here quite a few times and every time this place has got better. For starters...the beef and brie is phenomenal. It honestly didn't look that appetizing when it came out but one taste of it and I quickly shut up. Beef is cooked to perfection and the mixing with the baked brie... honestly one of the best appetizers from a restaurant I've had in a long time. (the calamari and peppered ahi are very good as well). On to the main courses, honestly I think every time I have gone I've only ordered from the "Special's" menu which has yet to disappoint. I've had a scallop and mac and cheese combo that was melt in your mouth divine. The different take on the Filet Mignon- from what is offered every night- with asparagus and potatoes... made it very difficult not to finish (and save room for dessert). Also a shout out to the buffalo strip- in which I highly recommend to order medium- rare at the most. Desserts- these babies are my weakness and I have my father to thank for this affliction. The sticky toffee pudding cake is a spice/toffee mix that is warm, moist, delicious and not too heavy. Looking for a little more bang for your buck look no further than the Nutella Profiteroles. Two mouth watering cream puffs stuffed with homemade coffee ice cream drizzled in Nutella... what could be better... I ask you? Not a whole lot. If you enjoy partaking in cocktails this place has them in spades. Great Martini's, wine, and pretty much anything you can think of. Overall, a great place to take that special someone or enjoy a great martini after work.

The surf and turf (lobster and steak) is probably one of my favorite combinations ever. I was in Boston a few weeks back and had some really great lobster and steak, so when I came to MacKenzie's I was pretty excited. Unfortunately, I was not very pleased with what I had. The lobster tasted like it was made out of rubber and didn't suit me at all. I understand I'm in a landlocked state, but for the price I paid, I expected something tastier. The steak was cooked fine, but the flavor was bland and the cut wasn't the best. I cannot understand how I have not yet eaten a decent steak here at the Front Range. The atmosphere is pretty nice with wood paneling and friendly service. A good place for a nice dinner date. It's a good place to go with company, but don't expect to have a mind-blowing meal.

I have always liked this place. It has a great 20's feel with the decor. We stopped in for lunch and the wife and I split the Jersey Kobe burger. The first time is came back slightly under done. I am fine with that as too often you go some place and regardless of how you order a burger, they cook the snot put of it, not so at MacKenzie's. The 2nd burger was dead on. The meat was very tender and flavorful. The shoestring potatoes were tasty if a tad greasy. The service had a slight hiccup after the order first arrived but overall was friendly and attentive.

At MacKenzie's dinner is excellent, lunch is underwhelming. They have nothing special for lunch, and the prices are average. For dinner, the menu is much. much better. They have a neat atmosphere of subterranean dining (underground), and the interior is lined with stone. Quite a unique place in Colorado Springs. It's a great place to go at night on a date. They have a full bar, and in the summertime you can sit in the very secluded and private courtyard which has hanging twinkle-lights, and the open sky above. (It's really quite romantic). They're open late on the weekends which is also very nice. Also, I judge all restaurants by their dessert selection and quality, and I'm happy to report that MacKenzie's has some of the better Tiramisu in town. It's not the best, but it's pretty good.

I went here for a business dinner and it's quite perfect for that type of occasion. It's dark, but not overly intimate, has Happy Hour til 7, makes a good appetizer, and has some truly tasty mashed potatoes. I like the location... historic building downtown. You walk down a flight of stairs from street level to enter the restaurant, which gives it a nice feel, too. The steak is alright, but nothing spectacular.

We came here for a late dinner on a sat night. There was no host when we arrived. I know it was an hour before their kitchen was due to close, but there still should have been someone to greet us at the door. We waited around for a few minutes and I finally had to walk over to the bar to ask for a table. Once seated our server promptly came over to recite their specials and take our drink orders. She also came back with some unmemorable bread and butter. I ordered the bacon wrapped filet mignon with a side of mash potatoes and steamed veggies. My dinner companion ordered the surf and turf. My filet was wrapped in the fattiest bacon I've ever seen! I barely saw any meat on it! The cut of meat was also disappointing. I asked for it medium rare and the center was only slightly pink when it should have been red like their menu specified. On top of that it was chewy! My companion's surf and turf wasn't any better. The lobster would have been great if it wasn't overcooked and dry. The bacon on his filet was also really fatty. The only redeeming thing was that our waitress kept coming around to check on us and my water glass was always kept full.
